All of us long for loving connections, belonging and unconditional acceptance. God designed us that way. We look for people and places where this yearning can be met, only to find that relationships can be messy. Then we want to wallow in the mess or run away from it. If God designed us for close relationships based on joy, why are they so difficult? I found answers to that question by understanding how God designed our brains to function in relationships, by receiving healing from past hurts and by locking in on truth that sets us free. If you are looking for answers, check out Joy-Filled Relationships and keep reading.
A New Book
For several years I have been leading my small group with the information from my parenting book that emphasizes how joy affects our brains and our relationships, using four of the chapters to teach relationships in general. My friend, Juli, suggested I take those chapters and make a new book, adding in all the handouts we have worked through that bring in topics that include healing past wounds, dealing with shame, growing maturity and processing traumas. The book is ready! Some of the chapters are taken from these blogs, but now all the info is in one place.
I have designed the book for individual study and in small groups. Using the book in a small group will take members into a deeper area of openness and discussion which will bring a more intimate relationship with God. In the back of the book there are study questions and exercises for retraining our brains. They can be used in all relationships.
Counselors will find especially helpful resources for how the brain works in resolving trauma. There is cutting-edge information on healing prayer.
It’s my hope that Joy-Filled Relationships is a comprehensive book on relationships, that will help us all find and keep healthier relationships. Check it out.
