“And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.” Ephesians 3:18 New Living Translation
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
“These things have I spoken unto you. . . that your joy may be made full.” John 15:11
The depths of God’s love
Truly comprehending the depths of God’s love for us is almost like chasing the wind—it’s something we can’t see, but something we do experience.
Just as there are times when the wind can be so powerful we are in awe of what it can do, and other times it whispers softly on our cheeks and slightly lifts our hair, encounters with God can send us to our knees or simply warm our hearts. Sometimes we feel His presence and love, other times we know it by faith.
Experiencing God’s love
Experiencing God’s love changes us just as the winds shift the sand in a desert. His love uncovers our fears and hurts and then heals them. His love changes how we feel about ourselves and our failures. We will never be the same after experiencing it first-hand because all of us long to be loved and delighted in and have a place to belong. Knowing His love makes it easier to overlook others’ annoyances and love them unconditionally—even those who do not love us back. The love of Christ brings intimacy and makes our joy full.
